Donald F. Behan -- Consulting ActuaryDr. Donald F. Behan is an independent actuarial consultant providing actuarial consulting services to insurance companies, attorneys, insurance purchasers, non-profit organizations, and benefit plan sponsors. He was a Professor of Actuarial Science and director of the Actuarial Science Program at Georgia State University from 1997 to 2003. Since 2003 he has been a Senior Research Associate in the Georgia State University Center for Risk Management and Insurance Research. Before joining Georgia State University he was with Deloitte, an international public accounting and consulting firm, for 22 years. He was the firm's chief actuary, and was the partner in charge of the firm's insurance actuarial practice, which included over 100 actuaries. For ten years he headed both the insurance and pension actuarial consulting practices at Deloitte. His consulting services covered the life, health, employee benefit, and property and casualty fields. For several years he headed the firm's largest regional employee benefits practice. He also provided statistical consulting services to airlines and other organizations. Dr. Behan has published articles in the Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society, the Record of the Society of Actuaries, Nonprofit World, The Interpreter, and The Actuary. He received his AB degree at Cornell University, and his MS and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Illinois. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, and his credentials have been accepted by the Casualty Practice Council of the American Academy of Actuaries. He has been a member of committees of the Casualty Actuarial Society, the Society of Actuaries, and the American Academy of Actuaries. He was recently appointed by the Council of Presidents of the United States actuarial organizations to chair a task force to review the process of establishing professional standards for actuaries in the United States.
